Background of the Study
Geopolitical alliances play a significant role in shaping national policies, including gender equality initiatives. Bwari Area Council, located within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Nigeria, has seen a rise in efforts to address gender inequality, with various stakeholders—including international organizations, local authorities, and civil society groups—collaborating on gender-focused policies. These alliances, often shaped by geopolitical considerations, influence the design, implementation, and outcomes of gender equality policies. However, the influence of external actors and international geopolitics on local governance structures and their impact on gender equality in Bwari remains underexplored (Ogunleye & Tade, 2024). This study will investigate how these geopolitical alliances affect gender equality policies in Bwari Area Council, focusing on their implications for women's empowerment and gender-inclusive governance.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Geopolitical alliances have influenced gender equality policies in Bwari Area Council, but the extent to which these external alliances align with local needs and realities remains unclear. While these alliances can promote gender equality, they may also lead to policies that do not adequately reflect the socio-cultural dynamics of the region. This research will examine how geopolitical alliances shape gender policies and their effectiveness in promoting gender equality in Bwari.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  • To examine the role of geopolitical alliances in shaping gender equality policies in Bwari Area Council.

  • To assess the impact of these policies on gender equality outcomes in the region.

  • To propose recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of gender equality initiatives in Bwari through improved alignment with local realities.

1.4 Research Questions

  • How do geopolitical alliances influence gender equality policies in Bwari Area Council?

  • What are the outcomes of these policies in terms of women's empowerment and gender inclusivity?

  • How can gender equality policies in Bwari be enhanced to better reflect the needs of the local community?

1.5 Research Hypothesis

  • Geopolitical alliances significantly influence the design and implementation of gender equality policies in Bwari Area Council.

  • The current gender equality policies in Bwari Area Council do not fully address the unique needs of the region’s women.

  • Aligning gender equality policies with local socio-cultural dynamics will improve the effectiveness of these initiatives in Bwari.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study is significant for policymakers, gender advocates, and international stakeholders working on gender equality in Nigeria. It will provide a deeper understanding of how geopolitical alliances shape local policies and suggest ways to improve the implementation of gender equality initiatives at the local government level (Ogunleye & Tade, 2024).

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on Bwari Area Council, within the Federal Capital Territory, examining the influence of geopolitical alliances on gender equality policies. Limitations include potential biases in stakeholder reports and access to key policy documents.

1.8 Operational Definition of Terms

  • Geopolitical Alliances: International and regional partnerships that influence the design and execution of national or local policies.

  • Gender Equality Policies: Policies aimed at promoting equal rights and opportunities for all genders.

  • Bwari Area Council: A local government area within the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, focusing on issues related to governance and gender equality (Ogunleye & Tade, 2024).
